Un projet s’est dessiné cette année là. Il reposait sur l’acquisition d’un voilier afin de proposer une activité de Charter offrant des prestations de luxe en Méditerranée. Ce navire, c’était un Scorpio 72 nommé LADY FRANCINE.
Conçu par l’architecte américain ROBERT PERRY et construit en Asie, ce voilier d’exception présentait de réelles qualités marines et un luxueux aménagement en teck. Son gréement en ketch et son automatisation permettait un programme de navigation en famille aussi bien que du Charter en équipage.
Neuf exemplaires du Scorpio 72 sortirent des chantiers et durant plusieurs années, le LADY FRANCINE fût la propriété d’une riche et célèbre famille française.
Sitôt approuvé par un cabinet d’expert comptable, le business plan fût proposé à une dizaine de banques sans résultat. Il convient de se rappeler qu’à cette époque, encore marquées par la crise financière de 2008, les banques étaient encore très frileuses et prenait très peu de risques pour l’attribution d’un prêt.
Une levée de fonds fût alors recherchée auprès de mécènes mais là aussi ce fût un échec; cela déboucha même sur une tentative d’escroquerie.
Le projet tomba à l’eau, le LADY FRANCINE fût vendu à d’autres et le rêve brisé.
Mais ce voilier est resté inscrit dans mon histoire et à plusieurs reprises, la belle LADY s’est rappelée à mon bon souvenir sans pour autant se laisser approcher. Notamment au cours d’une nuit d’été de 2019, lors d’une traversée entre le continent et la Corse, son plot s’est matérialisé sur notre AIS (1) sans que nous puissions la distinguer.
La vie est pleine de surprises et il m’arrive parfois, plus encore ces derniers temps, de penser que rien n’arrive par hasard…
Hier matin, en quittant notre mouillage pour remonter vers le Nord, nos routes se sont croisées. Durant une bonne heure, ALBACORE et LADY FRANCINE ont navigué côte à côte.
Elle était là, devant mes yeux, toujours aussi belle. Il me plait à penser qu’elle était là pour me dire quelque chose. Me dire peut-être que ce projet avorté avait eu le mérite de me faire progresser malgré tout sur mon chemin. Celui qui me mènerait quelques années plus tard ici en mer. Qu’à l’époque, le moment n’était pas encore venu pour moi, qu’il y avaient encore des pages de ma vie à écrire et des chapitres à clôturer.
Qui sait…
Nos routes se séparent une fois de plus, mais tu resteras toujours dans ma mémoire.

PS : le comble dans tout cela, c’est que ce voilier navigue depuis 2014 en Méditerranée et que ses propriétaires proposent à son bord une activité de Charter offrant des prestations de luxe…

A bord d’ALBACORE IV
(1) AIS : Le Système d’identification automatique (SIA) ou Automatic Identification System (AIS) en anglais est un système d’échanges automatisés de messages entre navires par radio VHF qui permet aux navires et aux systèmes de surveillance de trafic (CROSS en France) de connaître l’identité, le statut, la position et la route des navires se situant dans la zone de navigation.

A project took shape that year. It was based on the acquisition of a sailboat in order to offer a Charter activity offering luxury services in the Mediterranean. This ship was a Scorpio 72 named LADY FRANCINE.
Designed by the American architect ROBERT PERRY and built in Asia, this exceptional sailboat had real marine qualities and a luxurious teak layout. Its ketch rigging and automation allowed a family navigation program as well as crewed charter.
Nine examples of the Scorpio 72 left the shipyards and for several years, the LADY FRANCINE was the property of a rich and famous French family.
As soon as approved by an accounting firm, the business plan was proposed to around ten banks without result. It should be remembered that at that time, still marked by the financial crisis of 2008, banks were still very cautious and took very few risks when granting a loan.
Fundraising was then sought from patrons but again it was a failure; this even led to an attempted fraud.
The project fell apart, the LADY FRANCINE was sold to others and the dream was shattered.
But this sailboat remained inscribed in my history and on several occasions, the beautiful LADY recalled my good memories without letting herself be approached. Notably during a summer night in 2019, during a crossing between the continent and Corsica, its plot materialized on our AIS (1) without us being able to distinguish it.
Life is full of surprises and sometimes, more recently, I think that nothing happens by chance…
Yesterday morning, while leaving our anchorage to head north, our paths crossed. For a good hour, ALBACORE and LADY FRANCINE sailed side by side.
She was there, before my eyes, still just as beautiful. I like to think she was there to tell me something. Perhaps telling myself that this aborted project had the merit of helping me progress on my path despite everything. The one that would take me here to sea a few years later. That at the time, the time had not yet come for me, that there were still pages of my life to write and chapters to close.
Who knows…
Our roads part once again, but you will always remain in my memory.
